A national caregiving strategy is coming — what could it mean for Canadians?

Doctoral student Holly Mathias writes about the federal government's planned consultations on a National Caregiving Strategy (NCS) aim to create a national standard for services and support for Canada's 42% of citizens providing unpaid care. This strategy is needed to reduce regional inequities, address the significant physical, emotional, and financial toll on caregivers, and acknowledges that caregiving is a global public health issue impacting all ages. Drawing inspiration from other high-income countries, the NCS could implement federal legislation, financial allowances, and workplace protections to support caregivers.
