Promoting patient-centred care for people who use substances

What is ICHWP?

We are a collaborative group of academics and clinicians committed to excellence in patient care, and building strong relationships between our community and healthcare services. Taking direction from community members and their needs, we are guided by an action orientation, a harm reduction perspective, and a broad definition of health.

Areas of Impact

Through strong connections to both community members and health care providers, we conduct pragmatic, relevant research on substance use, harm reduction, and inner city health services.

Community-based participation is foundational to the ICHWP scholarship & healthcare. Our work emphasizes the involvement of people with experience, creating change through group action and ground-up decision making.

The Addiction Recovery and Community Health (ARCH) Team brings evidence-informed substance use care, health promotion and social stabilization to the hospital bedside.

We engage in teaching, knowledge translation, and quality improvement activities to equip current and future professionals with the tools to effectively respond to patient and community needs.
