Informed by the community

Our community partners help to inform the research we pursue, from the questions we ask to how we interpret our data. Community members work closely with our research team to develop feasible recruitment and follow-up data collection methods, create and test appropriate data collection instruments, orient new research staff, and troubleshoot research protocols.

Our many partners include the Royal Alexandra Hospital Foundation, Alberta Alliance Who Educate and Advocate Responsibly, Radius Community Health & Healing, Streetworks, and Boyle Street Community Services.

A unique clinical setting

The ICHWP program conducts research in a variety of clinical settings in Edmonton. This gives our researchers multiple points of access to community members seeking healthcare services, allowing for unique opportunities to study the health needs of patients who use substances. This also offers distinct knowledge translation opportunities, including the development of clinically relevant research questions, the involvement of clinicians in interpreting research findings, and increased capacity for quality improvement for clinical teams.
