Susan Zhang

Susan Zhang completed her Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree in 2024 and recently completed her first year of medical school. Throughout her training and early career, she has worked in a variety of pharmacy settings across Alberta and British Columbia, including hospital, community, and relief pharmacy practice. Her experience also includes working in inner-city pharmacies, where she developed a deeper understanding of the complex healthcare needs faced by vulnerable and marginalized populations. In addition to her clinical work, Susan has been involved in volunteer initiatives focused on mental health, an area she remains passionate about.

Through these experiences, Susan developed a strong interest in health equity, addiction medicine, and improving access to compassionate, patient-centred care. She is particularly interested in the intersection of healthcare policy, social determinants of health, and frontline clinical practice.

During her work with Dr. Ginetta Salvalaggio, Susan will contribute to a project examining Alberta’s Compassionate Intervention Act, with a focus on its implications for physicians and healthcare practice. The project aims to better understand the impact of the legislation and support the development of practical tools and resources to help healthcare providers navigate the policy and its clinical implications.

Outside of work, Susan enjoys going for runs, playing tennis, and is currently learning to play the guitar.
