Ladan Yousef
Ladan Yousef is pursuing a Master of Science (MSc) in Public Health at the University of Alberta. She holds a diploma in nursing and a Bachelor of Health Sciences (BHSc) in Public Health and Leadership. Her nursing background sparked a strong interest in caring for vulnerable populations and highlighted the significant health disparities experienced by marginalized communities. Through her public health education, Ladan developed a deeper interest in the social determinants of health and preventative healthcare.
Ladan brings almost 5 years of nursing experience, including work across medical and surgical units and in trauma, where she is currently employed. in addition to her clinical work, she has extensive community-based experience, including serving as a team lead for a street outreach program in Calgary that supports unhoused individuals and people experiencing addiction. She has also been involved in various initiatives addressing addiction and homelessness, areas she is deeply passionate about.
During her graduate studies, Ladan will work with Dr. Hyshka on a research project focused on addiction, particularly in harm reduction and evidence-based drug policies, drawing on both her academic training and frontline experience in the sector.
Ladan spends her free time playing on a soccer team, ice skating, and is currently learning to play hockey. She also enjoys reading and exploring new cafes.
